PRIVATE & CONFIDENTIAL, SHHHHHHHH!!!!
Last fall I gave my boss my resume, to be given to the Director of Dental Studies, at the local University. He has taught there for the last 15?? years and I thought he would know the best person to give it too. WRONG!!! Apparently he gave it to some old geiser, who gave it to some other old geiser. The bottom line was it never reached anyone, so I heard nothing.
Out of the blue last month I had a message from The Director on my answering machine, telling me she had just found my resume and would I still be interested. Hell Yes!! But I didn't quite put in into those exact words when I spoke to the department.
PROBLEM!!! The Director that left me the message, was one of her last offical duties. ( It was left on a Friday nite at 8:00 pm) She was retiring that day!!
Anyhoo, I called the department on Monday (found out all the above) and discussed the possibility of my being hired. But alas, it was too late, they had hired everyone they needed for the fall semester. I received the "declined" letter a week later from the New Director and it was so personal and kind, I called back to thank her. Also to tell her that I was still interested, should they need my services in the future.
Well........I had a phone call at work last thursday and apparently they need someone!!
Someone must have cancelled?? I have to take a day off work to do this, so I told her I would speak with my boss and get back to her.
I spoke with my boss that very day, starting off with that I had had a proposition for a job.
It wasn't intentional but I think that it was for the best. His eyes became guarded and his first words were, "from whom"? I said it was the university and it would be only one day a week.
I also told him that I thought it would be very good for me. (he knows all about my depression).
He immediately said that he thought it would be good for me too. (Have I ever mentioned that my boss is fantastic and I love him for it). It also didn't hurt that they want me for fridays and he teaches there two fridays himself, so it would be only two days that I would be missing in the office.
Well... I have a meeting with the director on September 5 and will be signing the contract hopefully on that day. I will be in the clinic with all the young potential dentists, and I can't tell you how excited I am!!!
Cross your fingers and toes for me guys!!

PROUD TO BE A CANADIAN !!
Nova Scotia MP Scott Brison made history of a sort when he became the first federal politician to marry his same-sex partner, Maxime St. Pierre.

The wedding ceremony took place Saturday near Brison's country home in Cheverie, N.S., a town of 200. He is the MP for the Nova Scotia riding of Kings-Hants.
Guests described the ceremony as joyful and emotional.
"It's something we need to celebrate and we must be proud that Canada is showing the way," Liberal Leader [of Canada] Stephane Dion said after the wedding.
"I came first to celebrate love and happiness between two friends of mine, but if by my presence it helps a bit to reinforce a newly recognized right and to encourage other countries to do the same, I am pleased."
Former New Brunswick premier Frank McKenna saw significance in the wedding.
"Everyone involved felt like they were part of a history-making event," said McKenna. "It seemed like a validation of a long process."
Former prime ministers [similiar to your presidents] Joe Clark and Paul Martin -- whose government passed same-sex marriage legislation -- and former Liberal cabinet minister Bill Graham were among the other political notables in attendance.
Quotes:
1) Mr. Brison has every right to keep his wedding private, says Halifax gay activist Raymond Taavel.
Mr. Taavel said that over time, opponents of same-sex marriage are coming to see it’s not a big deal. “I think it’s just a matter of time that people relax about it and accept that it’s a fact of life."
2) Just up a two-lane winding road from where the wedding was taking place, Pat Eldridge of nearby Canning said she is happy for Brison .
"If they're in love and want to be together, then that's awesome," she said. "Love is hard to find."
3) Another resident who didn't want their name used said: "To each their own. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions and own way of life."
4) Local restaurant owner Doris Hagman, who is a friend of Brison', said she was surprised at how quiet it was.
"I'm absolutely supporting him in anything I can do for him,' she said.
Brison is an MP with a national profile, having sought the leadership of both the Progressive Conservative and Liberal parties.
The executive director of Egale Canada, a national gay and lesbian advocacy group, said the wedding marks an important milestone for gay rights in Canada.................
"It's extremely significant," Helen Kennedy said Saturday in an interview from Toronto."The more that we see people like Scott getting married, then it normalizes it in the mainstream, and hopefully there will come a day when it won't be an anomaly, and we won't care and Scott and others can marry just like anybody else does."
This reminds me of the time, about 12-15 years ago when I was talking to my mom on the phone from Toronto. [I'm from Cape Breton remember, so that's where she was]. It was a saturday and she said she didn't have much time to talk as she was getting ready for a wedding.
"Oh, who's getting married," I asked?
"Well, it's not really a traditional wedding", she replied, and said she was late and had to go.
I found out later that it was our next door neighbour's neice that was getting married and she was marrying another female.
It brought back memories because my mom was such a "with it" person, that she didn't see anything wrong with anything, as long as you were safe and it made you happy.
I miss her more with each passing day!!!

I Love Greek Mythology Also.......
What Great Fun....Thanks Lemuel!!
The Greek Mythology Personality Test written by Aleph_Nine on OkCupid Free Online Dating, home of the The Dating Persona Test.
My Score:
Aphrodite

66% Extroversion
86% Intuition
72% Emotiveness
52% Perceptiveness
Funloving, talkative, flamboyant, social... you are most like Aphrodite. You love parties, people, fashion, and sex. You're impulsive, inconcise, and you find crowds and parties to be energizing. You're optimistic, upbeat, and frequently irrational. You hate structure and routine, and you don't like know-it-alls. You're not really a "big picture" person, however, and might not always assess the consequences of your actions before taking them. You do have a very strong hedonistic streak, though, and this gives you a magnetic personality. You dislike people who think too much.
Like Dionysus, you classify your life as a search for meaning and, when things go wrong, you can become manipulative. To others, you can often seem directionless and impulsive, but you make sure that everything that you do is in line with your strong, internally motivated set of moral guidelines. Your funloving streak, although your greatest asset, can sometimes prevent you from realizing goals or staying on task. As accepting as you are of other people, you have a great need to be accepted yourself, and this can sometimes lead to an overdemonstration of affection and insincerity on your part.
Famous People like you: Elvis, Eva Gabor, Paris Hilton, Elizabeth Taylor
Stay away from: Atlas, Prometheus, The Oracle, Daedalus, and Hermes.
Seek out: Pan, Dionysus, Apollo

90/10 Rule...............
Hey, no cutting in line!!!
By Mike Lindblom
Seattle Times staff reporter
Seattle Police officers Lyndell Jones and Jeff Rodgers carry out a unique mission: They're the only cops in the state who can bust drivers for simply cutting in line.

Seattle police traffic officer Lyndell Jones talks to a driver pulled over for cutting in line where traffic from the West Seattle Bridge merges onto northbound Interstate 5.
How many times have you been upset/pissed off at someone who has cut you off while driving or at a grocery checkout? Then there are the people who think nothing of standing in front of you during a movie [after it's begun], rude sales people, or just plain assholes who get a kick out of being obnoxious. I could go on and on..........
Last week I was at my psychiarist's and during our session, she told me about the 90/10 Rule.
The way she explained it, she implied that she came up with it.
She gave me homework. I was to keep a log of the number of times I allowed other people to upset me and then use the Rule to let it go.
Just for the heck of it, I googled it today and it looks like it wasn't her invention.
(Story) The 90/10 Rule
What I understand from the whole thing is; don't allow other people or situations to get to you. If you do, you are letting them drain your strength and energy.
You only allow them [be it family or friends too] 10% of you and no more!
The other 90% belongs to you and no one else!!!
It sounds interesting, so I am going to do my homework like a good little girl. :)

Ask and Ye Shall Receive
Butterfly Girl wanted to check out my favorite boots so......... here they are in all their glory. They are quite old so you can't see too much of the daisies, just the leaves.
I'm so exhausted , I can barely type. I've had my 6 year old neice with me for the past couple of days and it was a worldwind of fun and festivities. From morning til nite, we were on the go and when we were home, we had concerts and plays. I had a stage set up in the living room that would put any theatre to shame. :) We also had a food section set up for the entertainers.
She's leaving on Saturday........boohoo!!!! I'm going to miss her and her family very much but I am trying not to think about it. She's only a plane ride away right?
Have a great evening guys, I'm off to la la land!!

MY HERO
He's a quiet guy who doesn't say much, but when he does, you stop and listen.
He's also a devil when it comes to playing pranks on people. He loves playing them on me because I'm an easy target. He loves to hear me say, "ohhhhh that's gross", or "ewwwww".
I can't even start to tell you stories about him because I could go on, and on, and on.
He's also gorgeous and has a six pack that would make Brad Pitt envious. When I was a young teenager, I had friends coming out of my ears, most of them 5 or 6 years older than me. They started off wanting to get close to me because of Duncan, but because of my own personality, they eventually wanted to be friends with me, just for me.
We had a dog once, Teddy. Duncan loved all our dogs and Teddy was no exception. I don't remember too much as I was very little but one day Teddy got hit by a car and everyone thought he was a goner.
Duncan and I (so he tells me) took care of him. We kept him in a wheelbarrow and looked after him night and day. One day Teddy hopped out of the wheelbarrel and took off. He had damaged one of his legs so much that it wouldn't work, so he took off on all three's.
Teddy lived for a long time after that!
Duncan has a garage next to his house, where as a hobby, he restores old cars and trucks. On the weekend while he does this, all his buddies come over and drink beer.
I asked him once if his friends had a nickname for him. No, he replied, but then he thought about it for a minute and said, yeah they do, they call me Doc.
He's home on holiday and his birthday was on Saturday.
This was my birthday present to him..............

The Grim Reaper

No matter how cute Oscar is, this is one kitty I wouldn't want cuddling up to me........
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) --
You shouldn't be too worried if Oscar the cat crosses your path. But if he curls up beside you, you may want to call your loved ones.
Oscar has the uncanny ability to predict when nursing home patients are within hours of death.
The two-year-old cat has curled up beside 25 people at a Rhode Island nursing home in their final hours.
A doctor at the home says the feline isn't one to make too many mistakes.
Oscar has proven so accurate, he has gotten his own wall plaque and an essay coming out in tomorrow's New England Journal of Medicine.
The furry grim reaper grew up in a third-floor dementia unit.
The staff there is so convinced of his ability, they will call family members once he has chosen someone.

PROGENITOR
Descendants....... all of the offspring of a given "progenitor".
An orginator of a line of descent; a precurser.
I don't think I am going to be one..........
Love of My Life.......
Mine will end with Princess........ apparently she doesn't want any children. No little Maggie's running around half naked making mudpies. [boohoo]
I have been looking forward to being a grandmother since forever. I never had that, "I'm too young to be a grandma" feeling. As a matter of fact, I want them while I'm still young and have lots of energy.
I was thinking about it today and would love to be in the delivery room with my daughter, holding her hand, giving her lots of love and support. I never had that when I was giving birth to her, I was all alone.
My baby doll is living with her boyfriend now and they seem to be getting along very well. He adores her and treats her very well. He's doing his Ph.D in English Literature, the same as her, so they have a lot in common. That and he has a great sense of humour!! Bonus!!
My dream would be that she changes her mind because he is one of "the good guys" and would make a great father.
A mother can dream, can't she?

What Can I Say?
Not the horrendous damage some have done to children, but more of a personal nature.
There was this priest in our small community when I was a young teenager. He was openly attracted to the opposite sex and made no bones about it. The older people in the community were die hard Catholics and just saw him as being friendly to the younger generation. They didn't believe for one minute that he was a horny toad, as we(young people) all knew he was.
A few years later, one summer I was home on vacation. We were at the local beach enjoying ourselves for the day. Later on that evening we were all sitting around the table enjoying dinner, when the phone rang. My mother answered and said it was for me. I took the call and who was it but that priest, saying he had saw me at the beach that day and would like me to join him as his guest at a concert the following evening. I said no. When I got back to the table, all my family wanted to know who it was and what they wanted. I was mortified and embarrassed. I felt like some floosy he thought he could pick up.
Another time years later, a good friend of mine died and we had a party in memory of her after the funeral. I went over to the priest and thanked him for a beautiful ceremony.
He continued to show up in places where I would be. At the time, my life was in turmoil and I desperately needed guidance. Who better to turn to than a priest that I had come to trust and respect?
Making a long story short, I found out that the only reason he was so anxious to help me was because he wanted to get into my pants. I also found out that, at the funeral that day, he was enquiring around who was the attractive woman with the great legs.
I was devastated for being duped by a man of the cloth, especially after confiding some very personal things and him knowing how much I needed help. I had also decided on giving the church another chance after being away from it for so long.
All that came out of it was running into another horny toad. These experiences have not soured me completely, I'm just more aware that wolves do come in sheeps clothing.
I'm tired while I'm writing this so please forgive me if some parts are hard to follow.
I'm very sorry Lemuel if I did not come across as compassionate.

Feelings...Nothing More Than Feelings.......

When people suffer from depression, they have persistent sad moods, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, and the inability to feel pleasure or happiness.
Lately, I have had feelings that I have not had for a very long time. Feelings of joy, anticipation of good things to come, and the sheer pleasure of waking up and looking forward to a new day. I can't tell you what that feels like. Some people take that for granted, and if you do, don't!!
When one suffers from depression, using the Richter Scale (metaphorically speaking), nothing registers. You feel zilch!
This is just my experience with it and if it differs with anyone else's, well then ......... I am only speaking for myself here. But with the new medication I am taking, I am thanking God that there is medication available to help me feel this way again.
My Doctor tells me that once the medication starts to kick in, then she can help me to find my way back home again. I'm so excited I could burst!
I hate depending on drugs but here's hoping that they won't be forever!!!!
Happy Weekend!!!

The Big Picture

In the grand scheme of life......what is really important?
Yes, having a roof over our heads, food on the table, having a job, paying our bills, etc.
What we are not exposed to, doesn't really fit into the picture.
Here's a picture to make us thankful of what we have, or rather what we don't have.
My sister belongs to a financial institution that lends their help and money to a charity that does wonderful, if not extraordiary, work with this organization.
This is an e-mail she sent to me:
"Just wanted to a pass along a picture of a very special little girl who attended the About Face baseball Tournament that was held on Saturday June 23rd".
"About Face” raises funds for children with facial differences. The MDM channel supports this charity with a variety of fund-raising activities throughout the year.
You can see who the real winner of the day was!
She is four years old and my sister says she is a doll! After the tournament she was running around saying, "I want to hold the trophy, I want to hold the trophy". She really wanted that trophy!!! Her parents are wonderful people, that's her dad and mom in the front row along with my sister.
I'm very proud of my sister and just wanted to share it with you all.
Hugs Galore!!!
PS. I remember when my daughter was growing up, when anything bad happened I used to thank God. Because it could have been so much worse. Sounds corny but it's true.

Good Deed Goes Awry
Then I went over to the table to join her for a spot of tea and well........it was all downhill from there. I started to lose my hearing and everything got very fuzzy. I managed to get to a bed before falling down, then they all came around me, putting wet cloths on my brow, feeding me orange juice, etc.
What a fuss, it was very embarrassing.
I finally got up the nerve to go again today, as they are advertising they are short of my blood type. All went well again, except this time I had tons of juice and cookies beforehand, to avoid what happened last time.
When I was finished today I told them what happened last time, so they kept me longer.
Later I was told to swing my legs over the side to get up. So far so good. Then I stood up, felt great, the nurse went away, and all of a sudden my arm started spurting blood all over the place. They had put a gauze pad over the area with a band-aid holding it in place but it did nothing to stop the situation.
It was literally gushing, all over the bed, down my arm right to my fingers. It soaked my leather watchband. The nurse rushed over, laid me down again and started wiping up the mess. She had me hold a towel to my arm to stop the flow. She then wrapped some kind of sticky tensor bandage four or five times around my arm to stop the flow.
I wonder how long I have to leave it on??

I probably needed a transfusion myself after all that but they didn't offer. :)
BUT I did get a T-shirt out of the deal. My shirt was covered in blood and they have a policy that if you get blood on your clothes, you get a t-shirt!!! The only one they had was an X-Large and almost down to my knees. (See Below)
Beggars can't be choosers...........
This idiom means that people who are in great need must accept any help that is offered, even if it is not a complete solution to their problem.
Will I go again?? Sure, now that I know the "what not to do" stuff.
How was your day??

"R" Rated
Do you all have your parents or guardians permission slip to visit my site?I'm gonna go with the honour system and believe that you do :)
Cabot Trail

Cape Breton
Regarding my post about 8 things about me, I decided to elaborate on # 5.
(See my last post if need be).
I grew up on an island, Cape Breton Island in cottage country. Surrounded by the Bras'dor Lakes, in a picturesque world. See the photos above if you have any doubt.
Anyhoo, I had a very good friend (from the city) that lived in my neck of the woods for the whole summer. We did everything together, swim, go to teeny bops, hitch hike up to Kelly's Mountain to go to a dance, cover for each other when we were going somewhere "not allowed".
Talk about boys we liked and wanted to date, etc. etc.
We drifted apart as we grew older.
Then I met the man of my dreams and moved to Toronto. After 6 six years of marriage(controlling), I was ready to move on, with the help of a very kind doctor. Since I was on my own, I didn't go out very much socially.(never) My brother ran into my old friend when she was on vacation in C.B. and gave her my telephone #, telling her to contact me.
She did. We drank and had fun reminiscing about our childhood memories. It got late and I called my other girlfriend who was looking after my daughter, to tell her I was staying the night. I had no pj's so I just went to bed in my bra and panties. We're all girl's right?
Well, here's where the "R" rating comes in...........
In my sleep, I though I was having an erotic dream and I woke up to find my "girlfriend" on top on me, necking with me passionately!!
For those catholics out there, you'll get a kick out of this. I jumped up and started to pace back and forth, all the while saying, jesus, jesus, jesus. I grabbed the comforter of the bed and went out to the living room and slept on the couch! When I got up the next morning, she was gone to work.
The really weird part of this story was that I pretended it never happened. We got together on other occasions after this and not a word was spoken about it. I still saw her as my close friend as a child and the memories (trouble) we got into together.
But I never got "into" bed with her again!!!!!!!! (I wasn't that naive)
PS She did some other things after that, that I could forgive but not forget. She was a troubled soul.
But that's another "R" posting. :-)

Three Parts of The Puzzle

Gerry....My Friend
They gave him 3 months but he lasted only 3 days.

I'm extremely saddened by this and the only glimmer of happiness that I can retrieve in my mind is that I got to talk to him on Saturday. I sincerely hope that he knew who I was when I was talking to him, I think he did.
He loved his computer and the information it allowed him to reach that we normally wouldn't be able to. He loved reading all the newspapers worldwide and then informing us of what was going on in the world. Some, more often than not, were stories that we would not particularly want to hear. He had a very witty and articulate way of posting them on our neighbourhood community site.
I will miss him dearly and the fact that we still have his stories to read, will help with the pain.
Also, speaking about computers, now I realize how nice it is to have friends online because when I read their posts, it takes my mind away from my troubles.
Thank You Blog Friends,
Love Maggie XXOO

My girlfriend in Toronto told me Gerry has Head and Neck Cancer: Squamous Cell Carcinoma ...
They give him 3 months but he is only around 70 lbs now so it won't be that long.
I called Mt. Sinai (the hospital he's in) this morning. It didn't even sound like him and I hope that he knew who he was talking too. All I could do was give him my love and tell him I was thinking of him every day. It's times like this when I wish I was back in Toronto to spend time and help comfort him. But I'm not.......
There used to be a local bar/pub that all the locals went to after work or on the weekends. There was a very eclectic group of people but we all got along. There were professionals, labourers, writers, actors, rednecks, but everyone respected each other for who they were, not what they did.
Gerry always had a book in his hand, sitting on a barstool, reading and enjoying his drink and cigarette. Don't get me wrong, he'd always get involved in a conversation that he found interesting.
No one really knew too much of his past except that he had lived in Japan for quite a number of years. He also has an ex-wife (Japanese) and a son. He is also brilliant, actually genius would be more accurate. We also got the impression that he came from a very wealthy family. Not that he said anything, but he had that air and monies would come from mummy when he needed it.
He worked as a courier and that didn't pay much, but he liked the freedom it gave him.
He used to try and engage me to join him in cryptograms that he enjoyed (extremely difficult). For some reason he thought I was smart also!!! I tried and did manage to keep up with him.(Barely) :-)
We also have a neighbourhood blog of sorts, called a Community Form, that he is the manager of. It was great for me because I could still stay in touch with everyone from the 'hood, even though I had moved away. He pissed people off because he was always posting intellectual stuff that no one could understand. I always enjoyed his posts though because they were always relevant to what was going on in todays society.
He has a girlfriend that is a dimwit. (once again I'm guessing, no pressure). She says she has her degree in English Lit, but she sure doesn't act it. I'm so worried about him because she does not have a clue on how to help him. He wants to come home to die and she is incapable of handling the situation. Like getting a nurse or caregiver to come in and look after him, monitoring his medications, getting support from the health system, etc. Looking into all these important things are beyond her. It's not that she is overcome with grief, she is just hopeless. I am hoping that the rest of his friends will step in and help.
He wants to go home........he misses his computer.
Is that too much to ask for?
